The Gasan Group
This is us
The STORY
Our history forges our future.
Today the Gasan Group is one of Malta’s longest-standing businesses and is still wholly owned by second and third-generation family members who cherish the strong values and customer-driven approach that first sparked the Gasan success story in the 1920s.
In 1928, the late Joe Gasan, the Group’s founder, was appointed sole concessionaire for Ford Motor Company in Malta. This turned into one of the longest lasting franchises awarded by Ford outside the United States and the cornerstone upon which the Gasan Group was built. Simultaneously, Mr Gasan operated the ‘Malta Mail and Passenger Service’ between Malta and numerous other Mediterranean ports, placing the company at the forefront of the then-budding tourism sector. This period also led to the running of Malta’s main public bus service, as well as the importation of consumer and pharmaceutical goods, including the representation of the Boots franchise on the Island.
From the 1970s, under the helm of Joseph A. Gasan, the son of the founder, The Gasan Group acquired new franchises for the automotive and marine business and the Group diversified into new areas of business. This trend of diversification continued delivering success with the appointment of Joseph A. Gasan’s son, Mark, as CEO of the Group and brought in an era of further expansion and solid returns that shows no signs of slowing down. Some notable achievements of the group under the helm of the second and third generation include:
- capturing a significant share of the local insurance market and creating opportunities overseas;
- introducing cable television to all Maltese households;
- securing a strong presence in the development of residential and commercial property;
- becoming a leader in total building solutions and subsequently growing into a leading facilities management contractor; and
- investing in clean and renewable energy.
